Recently we asked a few of last year’s participants to share a few words about their experience. Here’s what they had to say…
I had never participated in a mud run before. I usually just like to lift weights in a gym, but my friends talked me into doing the run with them. I thought I was going to breeze right through it but there were definitely some challenging obstacles. We did the 10-mile course and it was a lot of fun. Can’t wait to do the one in April!!!

“Me and my fellow teammates are 911 Dispatchers. People you normally wouldn’t expect to see crawling under barbed wire fences in the mud! I told myself that even if I failed, I would attempt every single obstacle and not go around any of them. I am very proud of the fact that I scaled every single wall. The feeling of relief and accomplishment crossing that finish line is indescribable. Our team is so excited for Round 2 of the American Hotshots Extreme Run!”
Jazzmine Deforrest (Team: Control Dirty), Santa Barbara County Sheriff 911 Dispatcher
I love the family atmosphere. So many runs are geared for adults. Getting kids involved helps ensure the future of events like this. It was really cool seeing whole families participate. This run had something for everyone. From first timers to hardcore athletes like myself!

Last year I formed my team made of 7 Vicious men & 13 Delicious women. This truly is a unique run with amazing views of the Santa Ynez Valley, making every moment of this run well worth every challenging obstacle you come across.
Vicious & Delicious ended up in 3rd place overall for the 10-mile run!!!

The run was just awesome!!! Whether you’re a hardcore athlete with something to prove to yourself or a person just trying to have fun with friends and family, this race is for you. Gorgeous views, friendly competitors, and great obstacles. I enjoyed the chance to challenge myself like I hadn’t ever done before.

The Hotshots Extreme Run in the Santa Ynez Valley was a great test of strength, agility, and endurance, for guys and girls, young and old. I went with a group of guys and we finished the full 10 miles. Now in its second year, I can’t wait to see how the event grows.

The mud run was super fun and challenging! doing it with family and friends was perfect and as soon as it was over we were already making plans to sign up for the next one! We laughed a lot but also physically pushed ourselves through obstacles and challenges we never thought we’d do. It was such a fun and rewarding day.
Hi, I was on Team Horsepower, and I live in Hawaii. I attend many of these Extreme events so I just wanted you to know how wonderful of a time I had! The venue was beautiful and scenic. The obstacles fun and challenging. I look forward to participating again next year! Much Aloha!!!

Congratulations on this event! I have done several tough mudders and Spartans and your event was the funnest! I am anxious for the next event to happen! Thanks for the awesome time!
Cody Stevens, CMS Construction
I’ll be there for the next one.
Very nice venue…as good a venue as any Tough Mudder (I’ve done at least 8 of those and several other runs like the CrazyFit Challenge and one run by Mammoth Mtn). Very picturesque. Marketed right, you could get people to travel overnight distance based on the beauty of the course and location.
We ran the event yesterday – great job! The obstacles were well made and well thought out. (Focusing on the reservoir was very fun – a great swim at the end and very smart place for the water obstacles in a drought year.) The property was perfect – great running trails, hills were approachable for those of us that aren’t serious runners, and the scenery was spectacular and varied. I hope you put this event on again next year at the same property – my only comment is there were an awful lot of walls v. other obstacles – my personal nemesis.
Thanks for bringing mud runs local – we run Spartans at least once a year, but have to travel to do them. Having such a well run race right in our backyard is quite a luxury. We’ll do our best to spread the word for next year!
Dave, it was a phenomenal event!!!!!! We did not think there was a lack of volunteers at all!!!! We will be there next year, as we loved every moment of it!!!! Our favorite were the mud tunnels. Awesome event!!! Thank you for running it!!!!
That race was the highlight of my year and I will DEFINITELY do it again…
